Kitzbuhel

Austria - 800-2000m

  • Resort height 1200m

Certainly the most famous resort in Austria, Kitzbühel, has lots to shout about. Kitzbühel is a favourite destination with British skiers and snowboarders; this area is perfect for intermediates and great for beginners. Kitzbühel ski resort is an attractive walled medieval town set amongst dramatic mountains. The centre is car free and offers plenty for non-skiers during the day in the way of shopping, bars and sport facilities. Excursions to Salzburg and Innsbruck are also easily arranged adding diversity to your ski holiday in Kitzbühel, Austria. Nightlife is vibrant with plenty of places for the young and active as well as quieter bars and nice cafés serving delicious hot chocolate and Austrian pastries. Many mountain restaurants are reasonably accessible and are good.

The Kitzbühel skiing area is approximately 165km (including the groomed unpatrolled areas) and is centred around two main areas, the Hahnenkamm and Kitzbüheler Horn. The former is decidedly the larger area and is ideal for intermediates. The Kitzbühel skiing area around Ehrenbachgraben is the scene for the famous downhill course, which has run practically every year since 1931, excluding the Second World War and is ideal for advanced skiers. Provision for beginners is good with plenty of long gentle slopes both on the Hahnenkamm and Kitzbüheler Horn. Skiers will feel a sense of moving around the mountains rather than just up and down. There are 4 ski schools so there is plenty of choice.
