Courmayeur

Italy - 1200-3500m

  • Resort height 1200m

If you're looking for atmosphere, Courmayeur is oozing with it. The pretty cobbled main street is lined with restaurants, bars and little boutiques selling chic Italian clothes. The resort spreads out on the north side of the Aosta valley, with all of the slopes on the other side. A cable car whisks you across the valley up to the skiing.

Courmayeur's skiing is compact but offers something for all standards. Everybody who skis here loves it, good skiing, good mountain restaurants and a relaxed Italian way of doing things. The lifts don't close at lunchtime but for most people, it wouldn't matter if they did as long lunches and people watching are as important as the skiing. If you can tear yourself away from the relaxed atmosphere of Chercrouit then you can take the cable car from nearby La Palud up to Punta Helbronner, from where you can chose to ski the spectacular Vallee Blanche (make sure the Mont Blanc tunnel is open for your return) or come back towards Courmayeur for some challenging off piste. A guide is imperative.

Apres ski starts up the mountain while waiting for the cable car and doesn't stop. There's something to suit all tastes and pockets from the charming pizzeria to chic and more expensive restaurant. For a real experience take a cab to Entreves (5 minutes) to the Maison de Filippo, you don't need to order, one course after another just appears. Reputedly over 30 different dishes can be served and you haven't even asked for the main course let alone ordered the grolle (coffee laced with the local firewater).

We offer charming hotel accommodation here, often with half-board and excellent food. Click here for Courmayeur Prices
